whistle-blower's hotline

A whistle-blower's hotline for city of Montreal workers will be set up
in
the next few weeks, an aide to Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay said
yesterday. Mr. Tremblay vowed in a heated interview on TV news channel
that
a phone line would be started soon so employees can report fraud and
irregularities.
Bernard Larin, a spokesman for City Hall, said the phone line would start
within a few weeks, and serve the city's 22,000 blue-and white-collar
employees.
The phone line idea was suggested by Montreal's Auditor-General, Michel
Doyon, in his 2007 annual report. At the time, an association that
represents auditors, forensic accountants, law enforcement officials and
others who ferret out fraud in the private and public sectors said many
frauds are discovered through anonymous tip lines.
